Microsoft has launched an indoor navigation app which works without the requirement for any GPS or internet connection -Path Guide, The Path guide app helps users to navigate inside closed spaces, like building, malls etc,the app will guide people in tracking their routes inside a place, path guide app works with your phone’s build in motion sensors to keep a track of every step you make.
It provides a complete plug-and-play indoor navigation service that does not require maps or any additional equipment, In Path Guide, users can create routes by recording sensory data with their smartphones while walking indoors, Location-specific features extracted from sensory data are combined with users’ walking patterns (e.g., steps, turns, going upstairs or downstairs) to build reference traces that can be pushed to the cloud and shared with others for navigation purposes.
There are three simple steps to start using Path Guide:-
1) User records sensory data with his/her device during a given indoor walk, The location-specific geomagnetic features extracted from the sensory data are combined with the user’s walking patterns (e.g., steps, turns, going upstairs/downstairs) to build a reference trace.
2) Reference trace is pushed to the cloud and can be searched by others for navigation.
3) Once downloaded a reference trace, Path Guide compares and synchronizes current sensor readings with the reference trace, and guides the user, in real time, from the same starting location to the final destination.
The app is currently available only for android users, download it for free from the link below to the playstore.
